What should I have on my website?

I get this question quite often from business owners new and old! They often look to me for answers, so I thought I’d share for any DIY-er, business owner, or blogger looking to get started.

Logo & Color Palette

No matter if your logo is just a simple wordmark (a name with no icon) or a trendy logo design, it’s important to start with some kind of branding. You want to be noticeable to your audience. Color palettes are so much fun unless you’re like me and cannot make a decision because you like too many! If you hired a designer to make your logo, it is possible they also helped you with branding colors, but if not, I suggest Adobe Colors. It’s simple to use and you get exactly what you’re looking for.

Simple Description Or Tagline That Describes Your Business

This will be important because it tells clients or customers exactly what you do within 3-5 seconds of landing on your website. We’ll place it near the top of your homepage!

Explanation of Products and/or Services - Simplified

It’s important to show/tell your audience right off the bat what you do! Your audience has a short attention span when it comes to viewing websites and if it’s not clear, they will find someone else.

Photos that Match your Brand, Color Palette & Ideal Client

People don’t often realize how much the imagery on your website reflects your business. One of the best things you can do for your website and marketing materials is to spend time finding images that match your brand! Whether it be the colors in the photo, the filter used, or the people in them. If you don’t have the money for a professional photoshoot or expensive stock photos, I recommend Unsplash.

A Contact Form

It seems like a no-brainer, but these are very important. You want your client to contact you! Especially in a digital age, where people are using their phones for calling less and less. It also helps deter SPAM emails. I always advise using a contact form over having your email address written on the website.
